Imagine you have a fire or medical emergency one night, but the firefighters and rescue team can’t find you. Why? Because your house address can’t readily be seen.

But this isn’t a rare occurrence for the Franklin Fire & Rescue Team.

“We see it all the time,” said Susan Keeter, emergency medical services captain and president of the fire department. “Some of the houses don’t have them, or some are so small you can’t read them from the road, or don’t reflect enough that you can see them. Sometimes the address numbers are on one side of the mailbox, but not the other, or we can’t see the numbers.

“If we can’t find you, we can’t help you,” she said.

Hunterdale VFD BBQ Fundraiser

The Hunterdale Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its annual BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, November 6, 2010.  HVFD will be serving BBQ by the plate or pound at a price of $7.00 each.  Plates consist of BBQ, baked beans, slaw, hushpuppies, and a desert.  No tickets will be sold in advance.  Plates and pounds will be sold beginning at 4:00 P.M.

Capron Hopes to Build New Fire Station

Capron Volunteer Fire Department & First Aid Squad is hoping to construct a new building.

Fire Chief Vernie Francis III said the process is in the preliminary stages, but he’s hopes a groundbreaking ceremony could take place within two months.

“We’re working that way,” Francis said Wednesday. “I think we have two of the original members still living around the area who helped build the first station. We would like to have them present for the groundbreaking, when it takes place.”

The department, which has about 30 active members, has its current station at 18090 Railroad Ave.

Fire Destroys Boykins Warehouse

A warehouse that used to store shelving, mannequins and other items for department stores burned to the ground Friday.

Firefighters and rescue personnel from 17 departments helped extinguish the blaze, which appears accidental.

Newsoms to Host Life-Evac Training

The Newsoms Volunteer Fire Department will be hosing a Landing Zone training program in coordination with Life-Evac on Wednesday, February 23, 2010, at 6:30 P.M.  All county fire and rescue departments are invited.  This training session is part of Life-Evac's required annual training in each county that they respond to.
